Soulmates
Do you believe in soulmates? How do you define "soulmates?"
I went through a period of believing in them, recently not believing in them, and again am now starting to believe in them. To me, they don't necessarily mean sharing the very same soul, like being parts of one soul. In that sense, we are all part of one huge soul, everything in the universe. But as far as us humans on earth goes, I don't believe there's a person who completes us that we are to find. Rather, I believe that we have hundreds of them, and to me it means that the path my soul is on is similar to my soulmate's. Or, we have a special connection where we can communicate on a deep level without saying many words. And these soulmates can be friends or family, not just dating partners. In fact, I feel like three men in particular are my soulmates, and only one of them I dated for a short while. There is a very close girlfriend of mine who I also consider to be a soulmate.
It has really now hit me how much of our communication with each other is non-verbal. We really can depend on our entire selves, our gestaults, our intuition and emotion. We are just socialized to discount those things and base too much on cognition and rules. Because, the people I would consider my soulmates are those with whom I've felt a deep, magical connection that just cannot be explained logically. Interestingly, I have actually spent little time with those from whom I've gotten a sense that they truly understand and appreciate me. But the glances we've shared, and the warm feeling I get when I think of them, lead me to think (no wait, believe) that they are my soulmates.
And how comforting and wonderful to know that there could be others to find...
