Serendipitous?

I had such an interesting observation yesterday. As I found myself getting closer to someone I've had my eye on for a while, I noticed more distance between myself and the guy I've been with a number of months. And both of these things happened in the same day.

Are relationships serendipitous? Do such "coincidental" things happen often and with purpose? Or am I seeing what I just want to see?
